Within DV, Rockerbox empowers marketing executives to confidently make data-driven decisions, helping brands such as Tula, Figs, and Burton with the strategic decision-making that drives growth. To do so, Rockerbox offers a unique suite of product lines that centralize data and offer diversified measurement methodologies. The foundation of Rockerbox's solution is data centralization. Atop this foundation, the platform enables marketers to choose from a range of measurement methodologies, giving customers the flexibility to choose the most appropriate approach for their specific needs and questions.

As a Senior Software Engineer II at Rockerbox, you will serve as a technical owner for our data access and delivery layer, operating across the entire stack from data APIs and semantic layers, to CLIs, developer tooling, and AI agent interfaces. Sitting between our core data platform and downstream consumers, you will elevate the performance, security, and developer experience of our data for human users and autonomous agents alike. If you thrive on taking complex features from design to production and building the front door to a data platform, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the technical design, implementation, testing, and deployment of OpenAPI-driven data APIs and a semantic serving layer that turn source data into fast, well-shaped responses for UIs, CLIs, and downstream consumers.
  • Drive authentication, authorization, and RBAC enhancements to guarantee multi-tenant customer data stays secure, isolated, and correctly scoped across all system boundaries.
  • Proactively identify developer friction and evolve CLI tools and developer utilities to make Rockerbox data easy to query, operate, and integrate for internal teams, systems, and customers.
  • Establish best practices for AI data quality, observability, and safety, ensuring the data exposed to LLM agents and automated workflows remains trustworthy and deterministic.
  • Shape data access patterns and contracts together with the data platform team, keeping interfaces consistent, performant, and reliable as they evolve.
  • Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and single points of failure across our access layer, taking initiative to improve API latency, scalability, and overall platform uptime.
  • Partner closely with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders (Data, Applications, Data Science, Customer Success) to define requirements and ship customer-facing capabilities.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of owning, scaling, and maintaining high-throughput production systems that prioritize reliability and performance.
  • Strong proficiency in API design (OpenAPI/REST) and building semantic/serving layers on top of datalakes or data warehouses.
  • Proven background in access control systems, including multi-tenant isolation, RBAC, OAuth/JWT, or policy engines such as Oso.
  • Fluency in at least one general-purpose language (we use Python and Go) and strong SQL, with the judgment to pick the right tool rather than a deep attachment to any one language.
  • You think in systems: storage, retrieval, metadata, reliability, latency, and failure modes.
  • Comfortable working from ambiguity to execution, and being the first to figure something out.
  • Comfortable using AI as a primary tool (coding assistants, LLMs, and agents) to build efficiently and with high quality.
  • Effective communicator, able to explain tradeoffs, scope, and technical strategy clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building CLIs or developer tooling used by engineers, systems, or customers.
  • Exposure to JavaScript / React and front-end integration.
  • Practical knowledge of analytical, columnar data-access technologies (DuckDB, Arrow, Parquet).
  • Interest in agent-facing interfaces.
  • Familiarity with marketing analytics, MTA, MMM, testing, or customer data platforms.

Compensation

The successful candidate's starting salary will be determined based on a number of non-discriminating factors, including qualifications for the role, level, skills, experience, location, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at DV.

Not-so-fun fact: Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of job criteria, women and other marginalized groups tend to only apply when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes but you're not sure that you check every box, apply anyway!
