The Opportunity
Nutanix is looking for an experienced employment lawyer to serve as the lead Employment Attorney in the Americas, based out of our San Jose, California Headquarters, to be a part of our talented and collaborative legal team. This role offers an opportunity to play a key role in building Nutanix’s dynamic workforce, in alignment with its Culture Principles. The position will report to Nutanix’s Global Head of Employment Law and work closely with the People Team and business leadership, and requires on-site presence (currently 3 days/week in the office).

Your Role
Provide pragmatic, risk-balanced advice to Nutanix’s People team and business leadership in the Americas (Canada, the U.S., and Latin America) on all day-to-day aspects of employment-related matters (recruiting/hiring, contingent workforce management, compliance programs, wage and hour, compensation, leaves of absence, performance management, employee relations investigations and employee terminations/workforce restructuring).
Employment Counsel will have direct responsibility for managing core Employment Counsel functions including:
  • Advising and presenting to senior executives and the People Team on mission-critical employment decisions, policies, compensation programs, and practices
  • Management of employment litigation, including drafting responses to demand letters and EEOC/state agency claims, mediations, arbitration/litigation matters, supervising outside counsel engagements as required
  • Coordinating and managing employment-related projects, policy drafting and oversight of HR/employment programs (e.g., compliance programs, contingent workforce programs, compensation plans and programs, return to office initiatives)
  • Managing legal risks and provide solutions for resolving employment disputes, including supervising/directing employment-related investigations
  • Management and support of employment terminations/workforce restructuring across the Americas region
  • Advising on employment law trends/developments and best practices, including developing/delivering relevant trainings to the People Team and business leadership to ensure ongoing best practices and compliance, with a focus on leveraging AI use cases to create efficiencies and scale processes and program management
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts related to the contingent workforce, special consultants and other third-party engagements
  • Performing other special assignments or projects as needed in support of the Employment Law function
What You'll Bring
  • J.D. degree and California bar member
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in employment law (preferably a combination of law firm and in-house practice)
  • Prior experience advising on employment matters throughout the U.S., Canada, and Latin America, other global project oversight and strongly preferred
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with demonstrated knowledge of AI applications and use cases relevant to Employment Legal
  • Team player, yet able to own functional responsibilities and deliver results with limited direction
  • Highest level of judgment and integrity
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, project management, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $225,600 and USD $450,000 per year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
Work Arrangement
Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. In locations where our workplace policy applies (i.e. San Jose, Durham, Mexico City, Bangalore, Pune, Hoofddorp, Belgrade, Barcelona, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo), employees are expected to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week to foster collaboration, team alignment, and access to in-office resources.
