Role
We have real customers, real revenue, and real scale—processing 300+ billion rows daily across thousands of active pipelines. But we operate with the intensity of a seed-stage company. Our product-market fit is evolving rapidly as AI reshapes the data integration landscape, and our platform needs to evolve just as fast.
This role is for engineers who want to own what they build. You'll work across the full stack of our SaaS platform—APIs, data models, background jobs, integrations—writing production Python every day. You won't be handed detailed specs and asked to implement. You'll collaborate with the team to figure out what needs to exist, build it, ship it, and keep it running. If you want real ownership on a small, focused team where your work is visible from day one, we are a good fit.

Responsibilities

Build & Ship (70%+ of your time)

  • Design and build platform features end-to-end using Python, FastAPI, and SQLAlchemy. You own the full lifecycle—from data model to API to deployment.
  • Write clean, well-tested code. We care about test coverage, clear abstractions, and code that the next person can read and extend without a Rosetta Stone.
  • Build and maintain the APIs that power our platform—both internal services and customer-facing endpoints. Performance, reliability, and clear contracts matter.
  • Work with databases (Mysql, Postgres) daily. Design schemas, write efficient queries, handle migrations, and think carefully about how data models evolve as the product grows.
  • Tackle production issues when they come up. Debug, fix, and then build the monitoring and guardrails so the same class of problem doesn't recur.

Architect & Improve (20%)

  • Proactively identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and security gaps. You don't wait to be asked.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions—how we structure services, manage background processing, handle multi-tenancy, and scale the platform as load grows.
  • Evaluate tools and approaches pragmatically. We care about what works and ships, not what's trendy.

Collaborate & Multiply (10%)

  • Participate in code reviews and design discussions. Give feedback that makes the code better and helps your teammates grow.
  • Communicate clearly with engineers, product, and leadership. You can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders without oversimplifying.
  • Share context through documentation. When you build something, you leave behind enough for the team to operate and extend it without you in the room.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong depth in Python.
  • Solid experience with FastAPI (or similar async Python frameworks like Starlette) and SQLAlchemy. You understand async patterns, dependency injection, and ORM trade-offs.
  • Strong SQL and relational database skills. You can design a normalized schema, write a performant query, and reason about indexing and query plans.
  • Experience writing well-structured tests—unit and integration. You have opinions about what's worth testing and how.
  • Comfort working across the stack. You may not be a frontend specialist, but you can read and modify JavaScript/React when needed and aren't afraid of the browser.
  • A working understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP). You've deployed applications, worked with managed services, and debugged infrastructure-level issues.
  • Startup mindset. You thrive in ambiguity, define scope on the fly, and ship before the full picture is clear. You take ownership without waiting for permission.
  • You've owned production systems and learned what good operational discipline looks like—monitoring, alerting, incident response, post-mortems.
  • Global Collaboration Window: Ability to overlap with morning PST (Pacific Standard Time) working hours for syncs, design reviews, and collaboration with our US-based leadership and engineering teams.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with background job processing (Celery, Dramatiq, or similar).
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with event-driven architectures or message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Streams).
  • Exposure to data-intensive systems or the data integration domain.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.

Why This Might Be Worth It

  • Impact at scale from day one. Your code powers a platform that processes billions of rows for companies like DoorDash and LinkedIn. You'll see your work in production within your first weeks.
  • The AI wave is real for us. We're not bolting AI onto a legacy product. Intelligent integrations and agentic workflows are core to what we're building next—and the platform you work on is the foundation.
  • Small team, real ownership. You won't be a cog. You'll have direct access to engineering leadership, influence over technical decisions, and the autonomy to drive meaningful improvements.
  • Recognized platform with startup energy. The credibility of enterprise validation with the speed and ownership of an early-stage company.
