Flex Moving & Storage is transforming the traditional, often fragmented $90B+ moving, storage and last-mile delivery industry into a customer-first service with a wow experience online and offline. As the Director of Data, your primary mission is to build the data infrastructure and intelligence to transform raw signals into a strategic engine for growth, marketplace liquidity, and operational efficiency. You will build and lead a lean but high-functioning team to support the mission.

This role is open to USA remote, with need-based travel to our offices. Regardless of location, you’ll be expected to work EST hours. This role reports to the Chief Product & Technology Officer.

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Data Leadership

• Single Source of Truth: Centralize fragmented data from our internal systems and integrated tools into a unified data warehouse.
• Data Democratization: Architect a robust semantic layer and curated data models to transform complex marketplace data into clean, intuitive gold-standard tables; empower cross-functional analysts in Marketing, Sales, Operations and Finance to perform autonomous, high-integrity discovery through a self-service BI framework, reducing reporting bottleneck and fostering a company-wide data culture.

Team Management & Mentorship

• Work with and guide the Data/pipeline engineer in building scalable ETL pipelines and maintaining a robust, low-latency data stack.
• Work with and guide the Senior Product Analyst to oversee A/B testing frameworks and deep-dives into user behavior to drive product iterations.
• Develop a Data Science function to build predictive models for demand/availability prediction, estimation, pricing optimization, despatching and inventory allocation.

Operational Excellence

• Establish data governance, ensuring adherence to regulations.
• Communicate data strategy and progress clearly to executive leadership and the whole company, ensuring awareness and alignment across the organization. Act as the "translator" between technical output and business impact for the executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience: 10+ years in data roles, with 4+ years in a leadership capacity. Experience leading the data function within a fast-paced startup would be preferred.
• Technical Depth and Breadth: Proven track record of architecting scalable BI ecosystems from the ground up, with expert-level proficiency in the modern data stack and leading reporting platforms such as Looker or Tableau. Proven track record of building and measuring predictive models.
• Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of marketplace operations and P&L, B2B2C partnerships, online-to-offline consumer experience, as well as logistics workflows.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree would be a bonus) in Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
