Job Description

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to help build, maintain, automate, and innovate within our Linux and Windows Hybrid Datacenter infrastructure and to help drive overall efficiency, compliance, and security. The position will have two critical components in addition to the technical nature of the role: deriving business requirements from key internal stakeholders and creating DevOps standards and processes for Systems Engineering that will be used globally at Nutanix

The role requires a deep understanding of building technology for scale through automation & integration. As one of the more senior DevOps Engineers, you should be comfortable being both hands-on in creating IaC and creating appropriate documentation, controls, and procedures for the organization while following essential compliance and security requirements (SOX, ISO 9001 / 27001, SOC2, etc.).

Information Technology at Nutanix

The Nutanix GCO team is a global, fast-paced IT organization with the primary mission to provide capable & resilient world class technology services through IaC automation and operational excellence across multiple cloud technology platforms. As denoted by the name, the GCO team is spread out all over the globe with members across the United States and in EMEA. Despite the physical distance, we are a tight-knit team heavy on cross collaboration and communication, as well as a healthy dose of mutual respect for one another. GCO is one of the most integral teams at Nutanix, operating and maintaining its most critical systems, and as such this teamwork is vital.

Your Role

  • Implement and maintain DevOps automation tools and standards to deploy, troubleshoot, and manage cluster environments and applications. Design and manage build and release pipelines for Infrastructure as Code, while incorporating security checks and audits into CI/CD systems. Work closely with security teams to implement security solutions. Utilize tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and AzureDevOps/Jenkins/Gitlab pipelines to architect and implement IaC best practices.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately once every 2-3 months) to ensure 24/7 support and availability.
  • Continuously strive to improve and optimize processes, always looking for opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in DevOps.
  • In the first year, focus on investigating and participating in deploying infrastructure and/or application monitoring, alerting, and logging tools for the DevOps infrastructure. Additionally, prioritize the documentation and version control of IT infrastructure and/or applications using Git and Confluence. Track and report work status in tickets using Service Now.
  • Foster a collaborative and team-oriented approach, working closely with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve shared objectives and deliver high-quality results.

What You Will Bring

  • Deep knowledge of data center/Cloud infrastructure, including networks, storage, VPN, compute, and app services
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Extensive experience with networking principles, firewalls, load-balancing solutions, etc.
  • Ability to elevate junior team members by sharing technical knowledge through various platforms
  • BS/MS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Security, or Information Systems
  • 6+ years of DevOps experience in building and maintaining automated production-grade systems
  • Strong working knowledge of IaC tools such as Terraform, Packer, Ansible, Jenkins, Gitlab, Puppet, Chef, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/UNIX and related applications
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Server 20XX and related applications
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash, Golang, regex, etc.) to automate and simplify day-to-day tasks
  • Familiarity with tools for systems management, operational support, and performance monitoring, such as SolarWinds, New Relic, Grafana, and DataDog.
