The role:

As the Europe Trade Director, you will have the opportunity to join our team at a very early stage. You will play a key role in facilitating the closing of deals and contribute directly to top and bottom line results. The role will also provide opportunity to collaborate with various NYSHEX departments and stakeholders in the shipping industry. At NYSHEX you’ll get to work with a fantastic group of engineers and product managers and have a direct influence on shaping our processes and product. The team here works hard and is comfortable making mistakes, with the understanding that when things go right, it can transform an institutionalized industry.

This is a remote opportunity in the UK.

As a Europe Trade Director, you will:

  • Grow trade volumes for the Europe trade lanes and manage opportunity pipeline.
  • Be responsible to match supply with demand and help carriers and shipper to reach enforceable agreement using NYSHEX for European trade lanes. 
  • Work closely with NYSHEX account management and sales to uncover opportunities for presentation to ocean carrier sales and trade team.
  • Develop close relationships with carrier trade and sales stakeholders and maintain consistent communications to understand carrier needs.
  • Provide NYSHEX training and demos for carrier commercial teams and ensure their understand of the NYSHEX value proposition.
  • Review each long term deal to ensure terms fit within enforceable parameters.
  • Participate in 3 way calls with carrier and shipper stakeholders to address concerns and help suggest mutually agreeable terms to close the gaps.
  • Participate as a member of a functional team for special business acquisition projects
  • Stay updated on market conditions and work closely with NYSHEX carrier support team & account management to add value to regular carrier meetings by providing relevant member & market feedback.

You will need:

  • Passion for sales and deal making
  • Experience from having worked as trade manager for a major carrier
  • Relationships with trade managers at multiple carriers
  • Some experience working in a startup is preferred
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to form effective and enduring relationships with outside stakeholders
  • Some experience working in a startup is preferred

  • Determined and collaborative mindset
  • Outstanding communication skills in English, and a huge plus if you are also fluent in German and or French
