Have you ever stopped to wonder how your computer, clothes, furniture, or household goods made their way to your doorstep? Most of the things you own arrived here in a container on a container ship. It is a massive industry that we all heavily rely on but don’t think about much because it’s been done the same way for decades without much change or innovation. NYSHEX is a well-funded, series A start up that is transforming the centuries old shipping industry by solving its problems of inefficiency, unpredictability, and volatility and looking to capture $23 billion of economic waste annually.  

The Account Manager, Ocean Carrier will report to the SVP of Carrier Strategy and work on initiatives that are critical to our business. You will be building strong relationships with your member segments and ultimately be responsible for their success. You will be a key part of growing our team processes and be responsible for things like contract performance monitoring, forecasting shipper booking needs, and internal reporting. The Account Manager will also work on ad hoc strategic projects for the executive team. 

What you will do:

  • Be the face of company for your member segments 

  • Be responsible for member retention and volume growth   

  • Assisting to onboard new Ocean Carrier Account Executives members to ensure they are set up for success on NYSHEX   

  • Develop close relationships with Ocean Carrier Account Executives and a detailed understanding of their business needs and their key stakeholders   

  • Collaborate with our performance management team to consistently use data to help carriers demonstrate the value of the NYSHEX mission 

  • Be the focal point of assistance for any support needed, ensuring any obstacles are resolved and overcome 

  • Partner with the NYSHEX product & engineering teams to continually enhance our technology offerings 

  • Help provide feedback to rest of organization on carrier or shipper challenges while taking proactive actions to mitigate negative member experiences 

  • Assist sales and marketing team with data collection and reporting using HubSpot 

Who you are:

  • Possess a solid mix of initiative, imagination, and work ethic 

  • You are curious and know how to ask good questions 

  • 4 years+ of experience in container shipping, ideally with a background in sales and/or trade   

  • Passion for superior customer experience  

  • Ability to form effective and enduring relationships with shippers and outside stakeholders 

  • Attention to detail 

  • Creative problem solving skills  

  • Determined and optimistic mindset 

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills 

  • Proficient with MS Office  

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree
